A couple of months ago I sarcastically said I was going to make an app for my girlfriend. Much to my surprise shortly after, she asked me if I could make that app for her, for her birthday. So I agreed to it. I’ve been wanting to get into the iOS space for a while, and this gave me some good motivation.

Google Maps v3 Custom HTML Map Marker

I’m currently building a small rails app that will display where all of the breweries located in Portland Oregon are. So far the most complicated thing about it is interfacing with the Google Maps v3 API. Many of the problems I face, Google has examples for in their documentation. However, some examples seem to be buried deep down in the recesses of the documentation and are a little bit harder to come by.

Using Octopress and Github to Host My Website

Last week I started building my site on Octopress. Coming from Jekyll everything was rather familiar. While developing my site, I listened to a great podcast, called “Jekyll and CMS-less websites with Young Hahn and Dave Cole” on The Web Ahead. I won’t attempt to summarize it as there is so much covered, and it really got me excited about using Jekyll. If you haven’t listened to it, you can listen to it here.

Now Built with Octopress

I’ve deployed my new blog using Otopress. I had been using Jekyll for the past couple of weeks, but I found very quickly that making changes, then rebuildling/testing was very time consuming, and rather annoying. One nice thing about Octopress is that I can simply run the server like I would a rails application and it will pay attention to changes and rebuild the site as needed.
